1 Timothy 2:8-15

1 Timothy 2:8-15 NIV
8) I want men everywhere to lift your holy hands in prayer, without anger or disputing.
9) I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, 10) but with good deeds, appropriate for for women who profess to worship God.
11) A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. 12) I do not permit women to teach or have authority over a man; she must be silent. 13) For Adam was formed first, then Eve. 14) And Adam was not the one deceived; it was rhe woman who was deceived and became a sinner. 15) But woman will be saved through childbearing – if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.

Devotion ( by Eric Gillette)
Verse 8 is very basic in its meaning, that men specifically should be in daily if not constant prayer to our Lord, asking his will for all aspects of our lives.
The rest of this passage is devoted to how a woman should lead her life. Some of this passage is very clear, specifally the reference to a womans appearance. Now I hope everyone, especially the women who read this realize I am a guy trying to discern what God had in mind with this passage about a women’s role in society.
I think it is obvious when women are advised to dress modestly, not in a gaudy way that may cause heads to turn, especially men.
Verses 11- 15 can be perceived to be saying that women are a second classs entity to men. While this may have been the norm in the desciples age it’s obvious that this is not true today. Times have evolved significantly in the roles women have today, especially in the family. Many women are heads of the home by default. Women are as capable, if not more so in making decisions about every aspect of their lives. This is also true in regards to the Church. I look at the Jar and see the significant role women contribute in so many ways in the different ministries and the lead team. It’s obvious men and women can interact on an equal basis to further the Kingdom of God.
Realize that what I have said may be at odds with the doctrine of some denominations but over the ages churches have had to adjust to the world view around them or lose the ability to have any kind of an impact on bringing Christ into the lives of the community around them.

Prayer
Lord I pray that I have not twisted your words in a way that take away from the true meaning of this passage. I seek your wisdom and will in this passage about womens responsibilities and roles in your Kingdom. I pray that men and women of the Jar are able to further you Kingdom together in unity and love.
